A
GOLF PROFESSIONAL'S SUCCESS AGENDA
As
a Golf Professional, I believe ones success can be assured
by making an "A" in the following categories. These
categories are not in order of importance, but if there should
be one given a slight edge, then we begin properly. There
are many who are regarded as successful without number six,
but I contend that success without six is shallow and short
lived.
1)
People Skills
This goes beyond being friendly. I strongly believe that an
innate love of people is required for one's long-term mental
well being, as well as a tool for success.
2)
Teaching Skills
A Professional who helps golfers enjoy the game and actually
enjoys seeing their success, will make lasting friendships.
3)
Business Skills
A) Leadership
B) Attention to detail
C) Merchandiser
D ) Appearance
E) Superb record keeping
F) PGA involvement
4)
Playing Skills
A skillful player earns more respect from his members and
his peers. There have been many successful Golf Professionals
who could not make an "A" in this area. There have
been many Golf Professional who made an "A" and
fell short in the other categories and failed to earn the
success they desired.
5)
Family Skills
The Professional who demonstrates dedication and love for
his family is admired and respected by his membership. This
is another area that helps sustain a Golf Professional.
6)
Spiritual Skills
A relationship with Jesus Christ insures many things, but
His tenets are a fundamental guide that works. There
have been instances where outstanding teachers or merchandisers
have succeeded with less than an "A" in the other
categories, but they are the exceptions.
