September
Player of the Month - Scott Dawley
Scott
is the September Player of the Month, shooting rounds
of 73,66,71,71 at the Houston Men's Amateur Championship.
Great Scott!....
Throughout the last few years, as I've graduated from
college, married, and gone into full-time ministry, I
have never lost touch with Neil Wilkins, my swing coach
and good friend since 1997. There are two things I can
be sure of every time I go visit Neil: first, it doesn't
matter how sideways I'm hitting the ball, within 15 minutes
I'll be stripping my shots straight as an arrow. Secondly,
he's just as concerned about how I'm doing as a person
as he is about straightening out my swing. I know he's
a genuine man who genuinely cares about my life. So when
I went to see him late this summer, not only did he fix
my swing in fifteen minutes, his advice that I should
give competitive golf another shot confirmed what I believed
God had spoken to my heart just weeks earlier: it was
time to resurrect the life-long dream to play golf professionally.
This year's city amateur championship was much more
than a big golf tournament I hoped to play well in.
It was the first golf tournament I've played in since
the fall of 2000, when I had been making plans to prepare
for the PGA Tour's Qualifying School. Shooting three
under par and finishing second is the first successful
step in a series of short-term goals I have set to achieve
my dream. I'm certain that with the help of people like
Neil, my dreams will inevitably become reality.

par round of 60! His round consisted of 8 pars, 8 birdies,
and 2 eagles. What a round! |

July Player of the Month - Trey Wilkins
The
early lead for July player of the month is Trey Wilkins.
Trey topped the 16 to 18 year old division of the Southern
Texas PGA Junior Series at Sienna Plantation (Missouri
City, TX) winning by 5 strokes with a 71. He also won
another Southern Texas PGA Junior Series held at Windrose
(Houston, TX) with a 70. At the Eddie Burke Sr. Young
Houstonian Tournament held at Memorial Park Golf Course,
he shot 79, 73, 74 and tied for 24th. The young men that
played this event ranged in age from 16 to 24. I am extremely
proud that Trey got over his first round and shot 73 to
make the cut moving from 54th to 34th. Then he played
solid in the final round posting a 74 and total of 226.
Not bad for a 16 year old that is starting to believe
in himself as a player.
July 19th at The Houstonian Golf Club, Trey shot an even
par 72. It was a nice round of golf to finish one shot
out of the lead. Trey played the last 8 holes 3 under
par and just ran out of holes. July 26th at Sugar Creek
Country Club, Trey tied for 7th with 76.
