Instructions on taking and sending video to me for anaylsis.

First some basics about video. You can create your video on VHS, 8mm or digital tape. If you create your video on VHS or 8mm, you need to mail me the tape. If you take your video with a digital camera, please send it electronically as an attachment to my e-mail address, neilwilkins@swingimprovement.com. (If it is to large to e-mail, i.e. if it is rejected by your Intertnet Service Provider (ISP), you may want to break it into individual swings and forward 1 swing at a time. You may also FTP the entire file to our site, please e-mail dps@swingimprovement.com for instructions and a FTP password.) Please use a tripod and keep the camera in the same spot throughout each swing sequence of 4 or 5 shots as described below. Also, use the highest resolution that is available (i.e. the SP mode, not the EP mode). Make sure that you get not only all of your body in the picture, but also the entire club throughout the full swing.

Lay a club down just in front of your toes as an alignment aid. I prefer that you use a 5 iron, unless you are having a particular problem with a specific club. I also want you to describe what your general ball flight is, and if there are any specific problems. You then need to videotape 4 or 5 shots with the club from 2 different angles.

The first angle will be a chest view shot. The camera should be positioned at waist height, exactly at the midline of your body. Then video 4 or 5 shots in succession. DO NOT edit the video to get just ‘good’ shots. I want to see your ‘normal’ shots. Then take one close-up shot of your grip at address.

After you have finished filming from this angle, the camera should be moved behind you looking out at your target. From down the target line the camera should be positioned between your toe line and the ball at waist level. Use the same setup as described above, again making sure that not only you and the club at address are in the video, but also the entire club during the full swing. Hit 4 or 5 shots in succession and do not edit or delete any bad shots.

In summary –
1) Warm up.
2) Select your 5 iron.
3) Select a target.
4) Lay a club or other alignment aid just in front of your toes parallel left of the target.
5) Position the camera for a front shot as described, ensuring that the entire club is in the video throughout the full swing.
6) Take 4 or 5 shots in succession.
7) Take a close-up of your grip.
87) Reposition the camera on the target line as described, again ensuring that the entire club is in the video throughout the full swing.
9) Take 4 or 5 shots in succession.
10) If your video is electronic e-mail it to neilwilkins@swingimprovement.com. or e-mail dps@swingimprovement.com for FTP instructions and a password. Mail the VHS or 8mm tape to: Neil Wilkins
